DESIGN PROCESS

The project was to improve the whole of the older website that was starting to look dated and the e-commerce side also needed improving.

The old site was written in HTML and also had issues pulling through images.

1. Time Management

Dealing directly their head of web, we used a shared spreadsheet regarding the tasks and likely completion dates.

2. Research

Trade Geos had historical data from Hotjar that needed to be studied for the user journey. They had also provided user feedback from feedback emails from site users.

3. User Testing

Tests were undertaken at various stages throughout the design process with the internal team to ensure the e-commerce side of the new site worked as expected and captured all the data that was needed to fullfil an order but the users also needed the facility to delete their order information from the system.

4. Team Management

For this project, I used my associates to help. The project led by myself with 3 other designers and coders spread remotley used a Gantt chart to keep track of when tasks needed to be completed by. We had regular checkins and  milestones. Once reached, I would liaise with the client for feedback.

OUTCOME

The client really wanted to show off their products and the site needed to be as visual as possible and naturally work on mobile and tablet.

From this, I thought it was best to have two menus. The top one is the applications their products can be used for: Domestic, Industrial and Commerical, then a flyout menu from there. The Shop link has a prominent position.

Underneath, with a green background, and in keeping with the brand colours, is the menu to go straight to the main areas.

Users who wish to buy from the site as now seemlessly taken through the checkout process. WooCommerce was chosen as the platform for the e-commerce side as it integrates smoothly with WordPress and integrates well with payment systems such as Stripe, WordPay and PayPal.

As a comparison, the old site was written in HTML and struggled to render and pull through the images properly – as can be seen here.
