DESIGN PROCESS

This was a free site to help a local charity that was providing an important function to their local community. They wanted a site that was more appealing and more of a friendly look about it.

1. Time Management

Dealing with the team of volunteers and leading the project, the site needed to be turned around in time for a big promotional push and a pending ITV local news segment.

2. Research

Talking to the main project leader at L6, she was tasked with asking users of the site and documenting that feedback. From this, we had multiple calls to discuss the findings. Users did want something less formal for something that can be seen as difficult to entice people to use the services even though they might need to.

3. User Testing

Due to the time constraints, Hotjar was used to map a user’s tracking. After two-weeks, the findings were feedback by me to guide L6 and lead them into the changes it was felt the site would benefit further from.

4. Team Management

Regular calls and screen-shots were taken and sent to the project lead at L6. This was a task solely designed by myself.

OUTCOME

The end result is a website that is far more user-friendly. From Google Analytics, 85% of visitors to the site is via a mobile phone. It was decided to remove the slider on the mobile leaving users to quickly access the information.

The site is more colourful and engaging for the user. Bounce-rates are at a low 15%. The messaging pop system is used several times a week.

I also added a language selector for the mixed cultures of the local community so they know how to access their services quickly and easily.

A prominent Donate button is on the menu bar for cash donations.

Overall, my thinking behind this site is to help breakdown any barriers or reservations people might have in using the service. To that extent, this objective has been acheived.

OLD SITE DESIGN

L6 Old Site
L6 Old Site Mobile

The old site was using a free Wix domain and no one knew how to update the site, so became out of date very quickly. It wasn’t mobile friendly as you can see from the screen shot. Also the site hadn’t been submitted to Google via GSC so was hard for people to find it.
